Well, I thought I’d follow-up my Dec ’17 post and provide y’all an update on my achilles injury. Unfortunately, I re-ruptured my achilles last month while out exploring. I was healing from surgery (ruptured achilles) in Nov ’17 and got out of the cast, off the crutches and out of the walking boot. So, slowly making my way back. In February I was exploring near Gold Butte, off roading some of the back roads and trails. I wasn’t healed enough to hike, but figured I could get out in the desert, enjoy the beauty and get some pictures. I parked my truck in a wash to take some pictures. About 10 steps from my truck POP! my achilles snapped again, this time ripping open (apparently the wounds weren’t fully healed from November’s surgery). So, after hopping back to my truck on one leg, driving 40 miles off-road to the highway and then finally getting into cell range, I drove to the doctor’s office and had surgery the next day. It was pretty gruesome (lots of blood over the 2+ hour off-road drive and HWY commute to the doctors). Since this latest surgery (Feb ’18), I’ll be in a non-wight bearing cast & on crutches for another 12 weeks…ugh. So, this pretty much ruins my spring for getting out in the mountains.
