The Big Rocks Wilderness Area is in the heart of the Basin and Range National Monument, in Lincoln County, Nevada. It’s known as Mecca by rock climbers, due to the great scrambling and rock climbing areas spread throughout. Big Rocks is part of the North Pahroc Range and is an amazingly beautiful area. This entire area is very sparsely populated, so you can spend days without seeing other people, if you so desire (just stay off the main dirt road, where off-roaders and ATVs will occasionally traverse). There are several ruins scattered throughout, as well as many ancient Native American petroglyphs (including lots of representations of Pahranagat Man).
There are pretty sizable stone foundation ruins at Pahroc Spring. I can’t find any information on what these ruins were used for. If anyone has any information on these ruins, please let me know by contacting me via the Contact Me page. Thanks!
Regardless of your activity – exploring for ancient rock art, hiking, camping, rock climbing, off-roading – you’ll find it here.

Hello,
I may have written in the past but I am not sure. I love your site. It inspires. I wanted to mention, and you may know this, that to the north of Pahroc Spring is a moderate sized panel facing towards the spring. It is on the south face of the Point 5718.

Hi John,
Thank you for the very kind words! I’m definitely going to have to take a look for that other panel, thanks for sharing. I’ve heard of a few other panels that exist in the Big Rocks area that aren’t listed anywhere. So, I plan on strapping on my hiking boots and seeing what else I can find. Thank you for sharing the photos, too…they’re great!
Paul
Hi,
Did you ever find this panel:

Thanks,

Hi Alan – Nope, I haven’t located it, yet. But, after some additional research, I ‘think’ I have a pretty good idea where it’s located. So, next time I’m up in that area, I’m going to give it another try.
Thanks!
Paul
