The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) constructed these 3 cabins from native sandstone in the mid 1930’s, to protect travelers. The Valley of Fire has amazing geology and scenery, with these cabins set back against a beautiful backdrop. But, I’m more awed by the ancient history in the area, than the more recent CCC Cabins. There are many petroglyphs in the area, going back thousands of years. Directly behind these cabins are some examples of ancient rock art, pecked into the desert varnish that covers the red Aztec sandstone.
