Colorock Quarry is a historic quarry located in the Muddy mountains, north of Las Vegas by about 50 miles. It branches off from the Bitter Spring Backcountry Byway. It’s close to many other sites, including the Valley of Fire state park and Buffington Pockets. It’s a beautiful area with stunning geology. And, it’s isolated from the crowds of the nearby Valley of Fire. The remains of the old cabin are still in surprisingly good shape. There are a few other old cement foundations, indicating that there were other structures (or maybe planned and never completed).
