Gold Bar is located on the very eastern edge of Death Valley National Park, which includes part of the old Bullfrog Mining District in Nevada. In the late 1800’s to early 1900’s, mining camps and boom towns were springing up all over the southwest, due to the vast amounts of gold and silver that were being produced. But, with the California earthquake of 1907 and then the recession of 1908, many of these areas were abandoned. Gold Bar was no different, as it shut down operations in 1908. There are several tailings piles around the site, but the main tailings pile is massive!
