The Racetrack and Grandstand are located within Death Valley National Park. It’s a large dry lake bed (3 miles long by 2 miles wide) famous for its “moving” rocks. The Grandstand is in the middle of the Racetrack and is an outcropping of quartz monzonite. The rocks have the appearance of moving on their own, leaving trails behind them, sliding along the playa. Early morning and late afternoon/dusk are the best times to see the trails, as direct sunlight can make the trails hard to see.
