Rachel, NV is infamous among aviation enthusiasts and UFO seekers, due to its location near Area 51 and Nellis Air Force Range. There’s not much here, as the town itself only has a population of 54. There’s one business that gets most of the visitors that pass through, the Little A’Le’Inn. It houses a lot of memorabilia and kitschy items for sale. Plus, it has a bar (and the bartender is super nice)! Housed in the parking lot is a time capsule from the cast and crew of the film Independence Day. The plaque reads:
On the eighteenth day of April, A.D., 1996,
Twentieth Century Fox hereby dedicates
this time capsule and beacon
for visitors from distant stars,
to the state of Nevada and the
“Extraterrestrial Highway.”
This time capsule will serve as a beacon,
to be opened in the year A.D. 2050,
by which time interplanetary travelers
shall be regular guests of our planet Earth.

Hey, Paul! I’m glad I found this site! About a year and a half ago I took a trip to Las Vegas and went on an Area 51 tour. We visited Lake Delamar, Rachel, and went up to the edge of Area 51. Your text and pictures brought back a lot of good memories, even though I have tons of pictures from the trip myself.
Thanks,
Paul Gallagher
Hi Paul – Thanks for checking out my blog! I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures, too. This part of Nevada is so much more beautiful than many people imagine. Best! Paul
