The Yellow Man pictograph…click to enlarge

The Yellow Man pictograph site is located in the Apple Valley of southern Utah, near Zion National Park.  There are TONS of ancient petroglyphs, pictographs, shelters, etc. all throughout this area.

The road to get to the site is short and generally in decent shape. Along the way you’ll pass an old coral, windmill and an abandoned cabin. There are cattle grazing throughout this area, so please make sure to remember to close the gate at the windmill.

When I was here, it was a miserable mixture of wind, rain & sleet, making the short, but steep hike to the Yellow Man pictograph very slippery in certain areas. But, I’m sure it would be fine in dry, normal weather.  Also, the bull in the free ranging cattle was “not happy” of my presence and made it known to me, so be careful!

The main pictograph is of a roughly 3′ tall figure with a triangle shaped head. The figure has two red “ear rings” (for a lack of a better word) and white dots above his head (stars?). To the left of the main figure is a smaller yellow figure and what appears to be an upside-down red handprint (although I’ve read that it might be another small anthropomorph).

There’s not much information I can find about this site, but from what I’ve read it’s believed to be Anasazi.
