Yellow Plug is an area in southern Clark County, south of Las Vegas in the greater Goodsprings/Mt. Potosi area. There are remnants from our ancient past spread throughout this area (petroglyphs, pictographs, agave roasting pits, etc.). Many of these sites are unpublished and relatively unknown. The Yellow Plug area has signs of humans from about 6,000 years ago. The site holds clues to three different Native American groups, over a period of time (Virgin Anasazi, Paiute and Shoshone). Per La Rae Bringhurst, it appears the Anaszai were pushed out of the Great Basin area by war. The Yellow Plug area includes petroglyphs of clan war masks, including conflicts between the Anasazi and another group.
In the area represented in this gallery, there are several agave roasting pits (I came across 5 clustered close together), petroglyphs, pictographs and other signs of prehistoric people (lithic scatter). This is also a heavily mined area, including some still-operational mines. The wildlife throughout is quite diverse, containing jackrabbits, coyotes, big horn sheep, donkeys and wild horses.
